Research Help and Library Services during Winter Break 2020

by Maggie Clarke on 2020-12-18T07:00:00-08:00 | 0 Comments

The semester may be over, but some folks are still working on their research and the University Library is here for you!

Research Help

Ask Us! Live ChatThroughout Winter Break, live chat with a librarian will continue to be available 24/7—even while the campus is closed! Chat is a great place to go for immediate help with navigating databases, finding resources, citations, or questions about using the library.

To chat live simply use the chat box on the bottom right of any library webpage or select “Live Chat” on our Research Help page.

Don’t feel like chatting? Our research guides and FAQs are also available anytime throughout the break and can be an amazing resource for getting started on research, finding resources for research in your major, citation, and more! We also have videos and tutorials to get you started on evaluating sources, using databases, and citation.

Throughout the break you can also reach out to us via phone at (310) 243-3586 or email (ask@libanswers.csudh.com). All messages received between December 24th and January 3rd will be returned after January 4th.

Returning Books

Wondering how to return the library books you don’t need any more? Book drops are still open on campus! If you can’t get here anytime soon, most due dates are now extended to May 25th, 2021.

Book drop. However, if you were not registered for classes in Spring 2020, Summer 2020, or Fall 2020, please note your books are due because your account is now expired (or about to expire)! Please use the book drops to return your items. We will be checking them intermittently, and as always, books are quarantined prior to being checked in and removed from your library account. If you can’t get to campus, you can also mail your books, but we do not know when we will be able to receive and process packages. Call Library User Services (310) 243-3712 or email circulation@csudh.edu to get the correct address for mailing materials. Please be patient as we manage the need to protect the health and safety of our employees!

Book Pick-up & Interlibrary Loan

Due to the influx of COVID-19 cases and local safer-at-home orders, all in-person pickups of library materials are suspended through the end of 2020. We will announce when services will resume in the new year. We apologize for this inconvenience.

We’ve also suspended our services for new physical item requests via Interlibrary Loan and CSU+ until sometime in the new year. However, interlibrary loan requests for electronic copies of journal articles and book chapters will continue to be processed, with the exception of our closure from December 24th - January 3rd.
