The 5th floor is the library's event space.
As you exit the elevator, you'll find the Multicultural Reading Room and the Multicultural Art Gallery on your right.
To the left, you'll find the Gerth Archives & Special Collections. Archives staff will welcome you into the Reading Room, which is typically open from 9am - 4:30pm Monday through Friday or by appointment.
The Archives holds rare and special materials for the campus. This includes photographs, books, manuscripts, and letters on South Bay history, CSUDH, Rancho San Pedro, the CSU system, the CSU Japanese American Digitization Project, and more!
Where can you find primary sources? Some, but not all, primary source and archival collections are available to view online. You can browse archives research guides to discover what's in the Gerth Archives & Special Collections or search our Digital Collections database.
Some collections are only available to view in the Archive's Reading Room. You'll be able to take notes with a pencil and look through archival boxes and folders on your own!
To learn more about how to find archival collections at CSUDH, watch this video "Search for Finding Aids in the Collections Database."
When you're ready, head back down the South elevators to the Main (2nd) floor. The 1st floor of Library South is for staff only, but we'll give you a behind the scenes look on the next page!
