How Can Faculty Participate?

Ways to Lower Student Costs

  • Choose and communicate about your textbooks early
    • Helps students find affordable options (used copies, rentals, etc.)
  • Report your textbook choices to the Bookstore and AL$
    • The Bookstore website can display when you are using OER or there are no textbooks required
    • The AL$ team reports textbook affordability efforts to the Chancellor's Office each year
  • Assign an Open Textbook
    • Free, customizable, and available in most disciplines.
  • Use Library-Licensed Ebooks
    • The Library can often provide free, unlimited-access ebooks.
  • Place Your Textbook on Reserve
    • Lend us a physical copy for students to borrow from the library.
  • Assign Readings Instead of a Textbook
    • Students can easily access articles in our library databases.
  • Explore Discounted or Immediate Access Textbooks
    • Ask the bookstore about negotiated discounts.
