Student Opportunities

The CSUDH Gerth Archives and Special Collections offers volunteer, internship and work opportunities for students interested in various aspects of archival work including processing, describing and digitizing collections, and exhibition curation and research. Students will receive hands-on experience working with a wide range of archival materials in a variety of topical areas.

Internship projects will heighten visibility of library resources that represent the rich cultural heritage of the CSUDH campus, the Southbay and local communities. Under the supervision of an experienced archivist, students will learn how historical records are organized in order to make them available for research and educational use. Students will also have the opportunity to participate in campus or community-wide networking and career development opportunities.

We believe these communities represented within our collections must be centered in the work that we do. Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) students are especially encouraged to apply.

The intern and volunteer programs adhere to SAA Best Practices for Volunteers in Archives and SAA Best Practices for Interns as a Component of Graduate Archival Education
